There are thousands of books written about receiving answers to prayer, from our Heavenly Father. Most of the people that contact the “spiritword.org” prayer line have read some of these books and yet, they still experience difficulty in receiving answers to prayers.
Though these books are well intentioned, I encourage you to simply focus on His holy scriptures rather than on the experiences of others, as we seek to rectify this apparent “roadblock” in our prayer lives. We must keep in mind that: experiences come and go, yet, it is:
1 Peter 1 v 23
“…..the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.” Amen!
Romans 4 v 21
“And being fully persuaded(Abraham) that, what He(God) had promised, He (God) was able also to perform.”
Hallelujah!!!🖐️
If we pray to our Heavenly Father for ANYTHING that has not been promised to us in Holy scriptures, written to us; we can pray and pray until the cows come home: yet, those prayers will remain unanswered.
His scriptures, written to us, are His will for us. If we desire to find His will for us, we must simply search the scriptures.
Abraham hit the nail on the head “…What He (God) had promised, He (God) was able also to perform.”
This is our spiritual guarantee.
Mathew 18 v 19
“Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree(are harmonized) on EARTH as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”
There is no equivocation to this spiritual truth: every prayer request for something promised, by our Heavenly Father; every prayer request agreed upon by two, on EARTH, “…..shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.”
These prayer requests are granted in HEAVEN, yet, many times, are not received, by us, on Earth.
We must ask the question, why?
James 1 v 5 – 8 incl. I believe, clarifies the “why”.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally and upbraids( belittles) not; and it shall be given him.”
But let him ask in faith (confidence) nothing wavering(doubting) for he that wavereths (doubts) is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
Powerful truths!
Now I know that the context is receiving spiritual wisdom from the Father, but I believe that these principles apply to receiving any spiritual promises that our Heavenly Father has indemnified, to us, in His holy scriptures; especially: receiving answers to our prayer requests.
When we pray ourselves, or agree in prayer with another; we are to ask in faith(confidence) doubting nothing. If we allow doubts or unbelief, that our prayers may not be answered, into our thought processes; the scriptures are very clear: We will be all over the shop: “… for let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”
“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
Ephesians 2 v 8
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
We, as born again believers, do not have a faith deficiency: we all receive the same measure of spiritual faith at the time of our new birth: the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He proclaims that a mustard seed sized portion of faith will move a mountain. Mathew 17 v 20.
We have all the faith we need to receive answers to our prayer requests; however we must not allow doubts and unbelief to creep into our thoughts and dilute our confidence, in Him, to perform that which He has promised.
Unbelief and doubts, that we allow into our thoughts, will stop us receiving our God given answers to prayer. We witness the power of unbelief in the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ as he ministered in Nazareth and the surrounding areas.
Mathew 13 v 58.
“And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”
Because they knew him from childhood, and they knew his family, they did not believe him to be the son of God, they did not believe him to be their Messiah. Their unbelief
restricted the flow of the Holy Spirit through him and he could not do, there, the mighty works seen elsewhere in his ministry.
So how do we combat this unbelief when we pray. Remember that a small doubt, if left to fester in our minds, rapidly transforms into unbelief.
When I receive a prayer request for a specific need on the prayer line, I immediately ask the Holy Spirit for a scripture that will, if mixed with faith and excluding any unbelief, supply that need. For example if the request is for some material need I would recommend:
Philippians 4 v 19
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
I encourage that person to meditate upon that verse and to speak it out whenever a doubt about receiving an answer to their prayer enters their thoughts. Believe me, doubts will come; you simply discard that doubt and replace it with your scripture. I agree with your prayer, but if you allow doubts to develop into unbelief, I can’t help you. I cannot believe for you. It requires discipline to do this on an hourly/sometimes daily basis, but eventually your mind believes that our Heavenly Father will perform that which He has promised: your prayer will be answered.
In Romans chapter 4, we see this principle in the life of Abraham.
Romans 4 v 17 – 21.
“(As it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) before Him whom he believed, even God, who quickens
(makes alive) the dead, and calls those things which be not, as though they were.Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken,”so shall your seed be.”
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb:
He staggered(doubted) not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able to perform.”
Abraham was 100, his wife Sarah was 80.
Our Heavenly Father had promised that Abraham would be a father of many nations through Sarah, his wife.
The promise was “I have made you the father of many nations.”
Can you imagine the doubts that assaulted their minds? He was 100, she was 80: they had no offspring.
Now I have prayed for many young couples who were experiencing difficulties with conception(many conceived 🙌) but I think that I would be slightly doubting that this promise would come to pass.(I am not perfect 😊) Yet, lo and behold, Isaac, a son, was born.
Hallelujah!
If you are praying to the Father, and are not receiving answers to your prayers; meditate upon Romans chapter 4 and James chapter 1. Find your promise, ask the Father to perform that which He has promised and eliminate all doubt and unbelief from your mind.
Your answer will, like Abraham’s, come to pass.
I leave you with Mathew 21 v 22
“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer(that have been promised by our Father in His scriptures) believing(confident in Him with no unbelief). YE SHALL RECEIVE.”
Praise Him 🖐️
