In the gospel of John 16 v 13, the Lord Jesus states, “Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.”
John 3 v 6 states, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
The Holy Spirit cannot communicate with the man of body and soul, but He can communicate with the man of spirit, soul and body. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as Lord, accepted the Lord’s grace, accepted Him as saviour, redeemer, justifier, accepted His righteousness and resurrection and ultimately accepted the gift of the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to do so and begin listening to what He has to say to you.

Speaking in tongues is not a one way street. As we speak to our Heavenly Father in the spirit, would you think it more than probable that He desires to communicate to us in return? Verse 13 above states, “whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak.”
Who is the Holy Spirit listening to? Our Heavenly Father of course.

At this point, I must clarify that the greatest way that our Heavenly Father communicates with us is through the scriptures: His truth. Anything you hear from the Holy Spirit will not contradict the word of God, in fact, it must complement it or the source is not the Holy Spirit. What we are dealing with today are the times when we need insight into particular scriptures, maybe we have a problem understanding them. Who better to ask than the Holy Spirit?

If we face difficulty in our everyday lives, we can ask the Holy Spirit for the Lord’s perspective on that difficulty and more importantly which scriptures can help solve that problem. He is our Comforter, our friend. We can read the truth, yet “He will guide us into all truth, He will” show us things to come.”
John 14 v 26 states regarding the Comforter, “He shall teach you all things.” The Holy Spirit can make the scriptures come to life for us, all we have to do is ask. Men can teach, the Holy Spirit can teach us all things.

So how do we hear from the Holy Spirit? Is there a blinding flash of light, is there an audible voice from heaven? I will leave you to meditate on these things. Tomorrow I will share one scripture that I believe illustrates perfectly how we receive information from the Holy Spirit.
