John 4 v 24 states: “God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” We have previously covered “worship in spirit” and today we look at “worship in truth.”

It is extremely important to remember that John 4 v 23 proclaims, “But the hour comes, and now is (coming), when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship Him.”This is the Father’s desire not just to worship in the spirit but also in the truth.

As with the spirit, you must have a grasp of the truth before you can walk in it. In John 17 v 17, the Lord Jesus is speaking to the Father. He says, “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.”
Ephesians 1 v 13, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.”

Our Heavenly Father desires us firstly, to know the truth, His wonderful, matchless word. He desires us to spend time in the scriptures, to meditate upon them, to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us and lead us into all truth. John 16 v 13,14 and chapter 15 v 26.
2 Timothy 2 v 15 encourages us to “Study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Our Heavenly Father desires us to study His words of truth, His will for us.

There is a verse in the third Epistle of John that encapsulates this whole concept and clarifies it completely. “For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as you walk in the truth.”
And there we have it, we worship our Father not by simply knowing His words but by actively applying them, living them, breathing them, walking in the truth.
Verse 4 continues, “I have no greater joy, than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

Worshipping in spirit and truth is a balancing act, very much like balancing grace and faith. Our Heavenly Father’s desire is for us to worship Him by walking in truth, intermingled with worship in the spirit, speaking in tongues.

We live in the age of grace, the Father has given us freedom of will. But He seeks for us to worship Him this way and He has no greater joy than to hear His children walk in truth. Can I encourage you to worship Him joyfully today?

Have a glorious day!
